Container Scene Shoot

Today we filmed the container scenes and we were able to complete all of the scenes needed. The shoot went smoothly as possible, however much like the forest shoot we ran into some issue, although they weren't as damning. The only issues we came across was the battery for the light failing near the end of the shoot and the evidence board which constantly fell every few minutes. Both problems did not deter us from our schedule and again we did complete all the scenes.

Forest Shoot #1

Today we filmed a part of the forest scenes. There were some difficulties that we did not predict before hand such as;
  •  People - There were many people around in the area whilst we were trying to film, delaying us from shoot scenes according to our schedule
  • Weather - It was raining before and during the time we were shooting. This caused the forest to become very muddy, making it extremely hard to film the chase scenes to the extent that we did not film as much of the chase scenes as we wanted to.
  • Time - It got darker quicker than we anticipated towards the end of our filming, therefore we have decided that we are going to reshoot some of the scenes at a later date.

Evidence Board Article

"POLICE SUSPECT CROSS COUNTRY STAR TO BE IN CONNECTION TO MURDER OF MOTHER OF TWO."
"Police are still looking to speak to cross country star Michael Lewis in connect to the death of wife and mother of 2 Katharine Dalton. Mrs Dalton was found dead in the country home back in early July after what neighbours call a ‘heated argument’ with Mr Lewis who had been a friend of the family for sometime. Katharine’s Husband, who wanted remain anonymous stated “He isn’t fully aware as to what he has done to both Katharine’s and I’s children and to me. Especially from someone we would call a friend. I just hope he knows he will pay for what his has done! I encourage him to turn himself in before it’s to Late!” Mr Lewis has since gone into hiding and remains untraceable to police who desperately want to speak to him regarding the event that took place in July on the night two young children lost their mother. For any information as to Michael Lewis’s whereabouts please call crime stoppers on 0800 555 111."
This is the written piece that will be used as a newpaper prop in our short film. This will be the center of the evidence board, hence the reason why we felt that we should spend the most attention as it will be featured on camera quite a lot, whilst also implying a significant meaning towards the vigilante.

Talent Release Form

This talent release form which is used for the information of our Actor and specifies things such as the schedule and contact information for our actor.

Risk Assesment Form

.
Part of our pre production was to comeplete any risks that may occur by filling out a risk assessment form. Only 3 from the list could possibly create any form of risks, which are:

Camera Cable/Grip equipment - As we will be using a shoulder mount to hold the DSLR camera and film the chase scenes which will be filmed in a forest. We will have to be extremely careful with this to make sure we don't drop it as that could lead to damaging the camera.

Confined spaces -  Part of our short film takes place in a storage unit therefore we will be filming in a confine space, while this is a risk, this scene is the lynchpin to our short film

Weapons - The use of weapons will be the most dangerous part of our short film, but again it is necessary for the narrative. The actor using the knife will take extra precaution of themselves and their surroundings.

Test Shoot Reflection

Today we went and filmed our test shoot. I think this was extremely helpful as we were able to see what worked and what didn't work. We did cut out some scenes that we planned to do, on the other hand we also added many scenes that i think help the short film to transition better. However, the only down side was that it got dark earlier than we anticipated.

Group reflections

During our meeting we decided that our next step in pre-production should be to do a test shoot of all the forest scenes, just to see how it all fits together and more importantly if they all fit together. We will be shooting this on Saturday 19th of October.

Recce - Locations for our short film

Container shoot

The storage container will serve as our vigilantes kill-house. Before shooting we will have to decide how we will stage and use all the props that we plan to use in order to create a realistic eerie tone.

 Forest Shoot

These are some images that we took of epping forest. This will be the location of all the flashback scenes in the short film. We scoped out parts of the forest that matched what we had envisioned, in order to get that dark tone that we are trying to achieve, we have decided to film around 4pm.

Final location for inside scenes

After searching to no avail, we have finally found a suitable location for our inside scenes. After asking for permission from the college caretakers, we have been given permission to film inside one of the containers on the college ground. This was the best location we could have gotten and will greatly help us in both saving money and the convenient location, as it's in on the college site, it is perfect for the whole group.

inside scene possible locations

We looked at the big yellow self-storage as a possibility as it offered the perfect dimensions and setting that we were looking, it was also affordable to hire. However on calling them, we were told that were not allowed to film inside.

We went back to searching through gumtree and started searching for garages or warehouse studio photography studios for hire. Unfortunately we have had no success with garages as most were either to expensive or are only available for hire for a minimum of 3 months. We have a little more success with the latter, although we are still looking for more suitable options, however hiring a studio seems like the most likely option at the moment.

Week reflection

Our group has now started the pre-production stage of making our short film. We have been mainly discussing possible locations. We quickly decided that the flashback scenes would take place in a forest as it's an area that we felt has a natural ambience and would be easy to create a captivatingly eerie atmosphere that would go well with what we're trying to create. However we are having issues with finding a location for the warehouse/lock up scenes.
